His victory made him the second Nicaraguan fighter in history to become a three divisional world champion. He will defend his newly found WBC crown against Rocky Fuentes on November 22, in Kanagawa, Japan. There has been speculation of Gonzalez being instructed by Hall of Fame trainers Freddie Roach and Nacho Beristain.

On the news program Viva Nicaragua, Gonzalez was asked who would he prefer to train with, Roach or Beristain. Gonzalez replied, “I would choose Nacho Beristain. He has offered me many chances to train under him, and I am very grateful for that. I think he has a lot of experience, and me and him would be very compatible.”

If Gonzalez does in fact alter trainers, the news channel claimed the partnership would take place in the year 2015.
