Ronald Cruz is making his return to the ring June 14th at a place familiar to him in the Sands Casino and Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Usually when Cruz fights at that venue, the house is packed because of the support he receives from his hometown fans from Bethlehem. He is a staple on the NBC Sports Network and the Sands Resort when it comes to boxing. However, last time out he suffered a loss. Putting that behind him, ThaBoxingVoice.com reached out To Ronald to talk about his future fight, opponents he’s eyeing, and the pressure of fighting in front of his hometown fans.

ThaBoxingVoice: Ronald, your fight on June 14th is against Jaime Herrera, can you tell us about him?

Ronald Cruz: I don’t know much about him, seen 1 fight on the Internet. He has a big heart, tough guy style. He fought a guy that drew with Kermit Cintron. I thought he won the fight with Granados.

TBV: What is it like to fight in front if your hometown fans?

Ron: Extra pressure. I fought enough times to understand what I need to do. My last fight was a experience that I needed and learned from.

TBV: Your last fight you suffered your first loss against tough veteran Antoine Smith, can you tell us what you learned and what mistakes you think you made to not get your hand raised?

Ron: I have no excuses. Clearly, I wasn’t myself for that fight. I didn’t feel strong. His experience helped him a lot in the fight; lots of close rounds. That made me a better fighter.  I hired a nutritionist and strength coach. I still have the same trainer, no need to change.

TBV: Ronald after this fight, where do you think you fit into the mix at 147?

Ron: Making a statement!! I’m on a different level. I want to fight for a world title soon. I feel like I have a lot to show. I have an exciting style to give to the fans.

TBV: Victor Ortiz is looking to return in Aug or Sept, is that a fight you would be interested in taking in your 20th professional fight?

Ron: Sure!! I think Ortiz is a great fighter. But he shows that he breaks under pressure.

TBV: Is there anything you would like to say to the fans? Any social networks you’re affiliated with?

Ron: Thank the fans for their support. The ones that don’t know me will know I’m a fighter that doesn’t.
