download (1)Sergio Martinez hasn’t been in the ring since he suffered a technical knockout loss to Miguel Cotto this past June in New York. Martinez is at the end of his road and with multiple surgeries, he was unsure this year if he continues. It seems that the decision to retire or not for Martinez will come in 2015.

Sampson Lewkowicz told ESPN Deportes, “Martinez is unsure right now of what he wants to do. The last time we spoke was on November 15th. I don’t think we’ll come to a decision until January.”

Martinez has had shoulder surgery and multiple knee surgeries since his bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2012. In 2013, he won a close decision against Martin Murray in his native Argentina but did not look as mobile as he used to. Against Cotto after 3 first round knockdowns, it looked like the wheels fell off and there was no coming back from it.

But Sergio Martinez does want to continue is he wins the battle with his body.

“If my knee heels correctly, I’ll take on anyone in the division. But first I must fight my body to recover fully,” said Martinez.
