Team Maidana “We would like is to fight Danny Garcia in July or August.”

mayhem-arrivals-marcos-maidana-1146Marcos Maidana has been out of the ring since September of last year when he lost a decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their rematch from their first fight in May. With the landscape of boxing seismic shifting towards Al Haymon, Maidana should have interesting fights lined up. But as of right now his team is waiting.

“We don’t have anything right now, not even June is certain,” his manager Sebastian Contursi told ESPN Deportes. “But what we would like is to fight Danny Garcia in July or August. That’s the type of rival we want, but nothing is certain.”

Garcia has a fight set with Lamont Peterson in April at a catch weight of 143 lbs. Should he win that fight, many industry insiders believe he will make the move up to welterweight because of the money and because some feel he can’t make 147 lbs.

Al Haymon has time deals with multiple networks that include NBC, Spike TV and now rumors are about that he will have time buy deals with BET, Telemundo, and even ESPN after June. So if this fight is made, Haymon will have many options to showcase a fight between two of his best fighters.
