Brandon Adams and John Thompson met in the 154lb Boxcino Tournament Finals tonight, and it was incredible. Both fighters came in the fight with something to prove. For Adams, he was trying to wipe away the loss he suffered in the last Boxcino finals in the 160lb division last year. Thompson was never supposed to be in this position in the first place and came into this tournament as an alternate the day before the tournament started.

Adams started off fast by landing a left hand that sent Thompson down to the canvas, although he got up almost immediately. Adams bull rushed Thompson and surprised him. Adams closed the distance and made Thompson uncomfortable, but managed to put together and 4 punch combo that was beautiful. Thompson only landed about 3 of those punches, and only 1 was solid, but it showed he wouldn’t be bullied.

Thompson was getting hit with the bigger shots, but he was at least attempting to make adjustments.

In the second, Thompson was still being hit, but not nearly as much and only because Adams was so intent on crashing in. Things would soon change. After a strong right hand landed behind the jab that connected on Adams’ chin, Thomson took complete control of the fight. Thompson swarmed Adams and was picking the best shots possible. The ones that hurt. The ones that counted.

Thompson was now in complete control and sent Adams to the canvas after eating a swarm of punches. Adams managed to get up, but Thompson was still dictating the fight’s everything. Thompson began headhunting and he was landing. After a handful of left hands landed, Thompson landed a big right hand that destroyed Adams. Even though Adams made it up off the canvas it was only for posturing, which he didn’t do very well, and the fight was stopped shortly after.

Thompson becomes the first and last Boxcino Tournament winner at 154lbs. Thompson is an artist and he created a very prolific moment in the final ESPN “Friday Night Fights,” printed on film, cemented in our memories.
