Shawn Porter- Keith ThurmanThere’s an old adage that reads “it takes one to know one.” Well if that’s true, we are in for something special the evening of June 25th.

John “The Gladiator” Molina Jr., the longstanding junior lightweight contender, is no stranger to all action brawls. The California native has been a participant in many, most memorably an eleven round shootout with hard punching Lucas Matthysse in 2011.

Recently, Tha Boxing Voice’s own Fernando Pimentel caught up with Molina, where the boxer gave his take on the upcoming Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter fight and summed it up short and sweet: “It’s going to be a great fight.”

Thurman vs. Porter has been one of the most anticipated grudge matches in boxing. The two have been on a collision course for a few years, with both boxers winning high-profile fights. Thurman finished 2015 with victories over Robert Guerrero and Luis Collazo and Porter bested Ohio rival Adrien Broner.

The fight was originally rumored to take place in December 2015 but was moved to March to optimize national television ratings. Unfortunately, Thurman suffered an injured neck in a minor car accident and the fight was put on hiatus again.

Boxing fans, fed up with the consistent delays, voiced their displeasure all over social media. Who can blame them? Thurman is an undefeated, crowd-pleasing fighter and Porter is a straightforward bull in the ring. Since Floyd Mayweather retired, the public is itching for a new king of the hill at welterweight and these two fighters are right in contention.

Rest assured, the powers that be rescheduled the matchup, now penciled in for June 25th in a location to be determined. So we have close to three months to pontificate on who will come out on top. And what kind of action shall we expect?

“Everyone is extremely excited about the fight between Thurman and Porter. It’s going to be a good fight for both guys, I’m excited about that fight,” Molina said.

Well, I’ll take Molina’s word for it.

By the way, if you haven’t heard, Molina might just be in yet another war himself, June 11th versus Ruslan Provodnikov. Gear up boxing fans, the spring/summer should present us with some must-see TV.
