“GGG, GGG, GGG!” the chants only grew like thunder as Gennady “GGG” Golovkin makes his way to the ring.

A few weeks ago this entire event seemed to be in jeopardy, due to a failed drug test on behalf of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The failed drug test sent shock waves throughout the internet where millions made a decision and have decided that Canelo is the one to blame.

With the boxing world on fire, Cinco De Mayo in jeopardy the best thing that could happen happened. Gennady Golovkin had a window of opportunity with the current Clenbuterol scandal.

It was either A. wait around like a B-Side and see if Canelo get a clearance from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to be able to fight. Golovkin could have waited to see if things fixed itself or B. do what Golovkin and his team decided was best and become the HERO the boxing world needed that day.

Team Golovkin stepped in and not only saved the date but saved the event. Cinco De Mayo is a deeply rooted tradition for the Mexican culture and Mexican-American culture, and GGG taking the tentpole event of the storied holiday for boxing to south LA, a mere 3 hours from the Mexican Border, symbolic at the least.

Fast forward to weigh-in Day, it’s Friday we have a fight, Vanes Martirosyan the career 154 pounder decorated amateur who’s truly shared the ring with the ‘who’s who’ of boxing. From Jermell Charlo to Erislandy Lara, Vanes has fought some of the best.

After 8 hours of travel, Thaboxingvoice.com team arrives in California as part of the Chivas Regal Fan Feast who is the official sponsor of GGG. This marks our second year in a row we were asked to headline the festivities.

As soon as we arrived in LA, all the travelling didn’t matter. We were finally here.  We took the bus over to the rental car lot to be greeted by the stylish and sensual red 2018 Mazda CX-5 Grand. From a tight crowded flight to spacious luxury, the vehicle’s modern design was matched by modern Bluetooth and CarPlay technology. Its sleek design made it hard to distinguish whether this was a car we could pick up the kids from soccer practice in or go to downtown LA for a night out. From backseat seat warmers to an impeccable sound system, the Mazda CX-5 Grand was a pure joy to drive around the iconic streets of Los Angeles.

A perfect pairing of icons-GGG, Cinco De Mayo, Boxing, The Stub Hub Center, Los Angeles, and Mazda. A trip that was centered around the biggest day of the sport had to be matched by an equally great automobile.

“GGG, GGG, GGG!” Chants were ringing around the stands and palm trees as the brisk California night air was not able to silence the excitement and euphoria of GGG knocking out Vanes Martirosyan in the 2nd round to the thousands of fans. As we were pouring out of the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California with the thousands of passionate fans after a 3-hour live radio show followed by a massive boxing event, we were eager to get back in the far more comfortable Mazda and drive back to the hotel after a successful night of boxing.
