download (1)Chris Arreola (35- 4, 31 Kos) was originally scheduled to make his return to the ring on December 11, on an ESPN 2 boxing special in Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California, but is forced to withdraw due to an elbow injury.

According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, Arreola experienced elbow problems two weeks before the Bermane Stiverne fight, which took place on May 10 of this year. Then he had surgery on his elbow on July 7.

Henry Ramirez, Arreola’s trainer told ESPN, there were talks of Arreola having Tommy John Surgery following the Stiverne fight. This type of surgery has been the norm for a large portion of MLB pitchers. Tommy John surgery has reportedly increased the elbow strength of many pitchers in the professional baseball, but Arreola’s camp did not undergo this specific type of surgery because it is a yearlong rehabilitation process. Instead they just did a scope.

When Arreola’s elbow was recently examined, it was determined it has not fully recovered. There have been reports of Arreola doing light training in his gym, but it is yet determined when the Mexican-American will return to the ring.
