Jean Pascal and Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins Announce Upcoming FightAccording to Fighthub, ESPN Deportes reported that the manager of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Al Haymon, is looking to negotiate a possible rematch with Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. It has also been reported, that despite the ongoing talks of a Canelo-Cotto fight from happening, Cotto’s camp is open to a possible Mayweather fight on May 2nd.

If Cotto’s camp decides to go the Mayweather route, it will certainly postpone Golden Boy’s plan of a mega fight with Cotto-Canelo next year. Fighthype.com caught up with Oscar De La Hoya and asked him about his opinion on the matter. De La Hoya stated, “No it’s not serious at all. Obviously Floyd Mayweather is contractually obligated with [Showtime] and Miguel Cotto is obviously with HBO. Floyd is with Showtime, so it’s nothing we lose sleep over.”

De La Hoya certainly has a strong case. The most feasible option for Cotto is to fight Canelo due to political restraints that may prevent a Cotto-Mayweather fight from happening, but 2015 may bring unexpected things. Perhaps the bridge can be crossed much easier allowing many seemingly impossible fights to occur. Even if this happens, Cotto cannot go wrong with either option because he will be guaranteed a large amount of revenue regardless if it’s Mayweather or Canelo. As of right now the odds favor towards a Canelo fight, then if he wins, a possible fight with Gennady Golovkin in the near future. Fight fans will just have to tune in to see what 2015 has to offer.
