Melendez Vs. Grajeda Headlines June 7th Shobox From Turning Stone Casino

ONEIDA NATION HOMELANDS (May 15, 2013) For the fifth time in the last ten months, Turning Stone Resort Casino will host nationally televised professional boxing, as the Showtime Network program “SHOBOX – The New Generation” will originate, live, Friday, June 7 from the Turning Stone Event Center.

 

For the last ten years, “SHOBOX – The New Generation” has been a launching pad for future champions, with over 40 fighters graduating on to win world titles. 

 

On June 7, Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment, in association with AASHA Record Breakers will present a fight card filled with the young, rising stars of the sport.  The event will mark the first time Showtime has produced a televised boxing event at Turning Stone.

 

In the main event, power puncher Jorge “Destroyer” Melendez (26-2-1, 25 KOs) of Puerto Rico will defend his WBO Latino Super Welterweight title in a ten-rounder against Luis Grajeda (14-1, 10 KOs) of Mexico

 

The co-feature will be eight-rounds in the Bantamweight division, as a pair of unbeatens square off.  Jonathan Vidal (17-0, 9 KOs) of Puerto Rico will face Mario Munoz (13-0-1, 10 KOs) of Mexico.

 

The undercard is highlighted by Junior Lightweight prospect Jeffrey Fontanez (11-0, 9 KOs) of Puerto Rico set to meet Alejandro Rodriguez (19-10, 11 KOs) of Mexico in a bout scheduled for six rounds.

 

Other bouts include Samuel Kotey (19-0, 15 KOs) of Ghana facing Guillermo Sanchez (13-8, 5 KOs) of Buffalo, NY in a Lightweight matchup.  Super Bantamweight John Franklin (4-0, 2 KOs) of Kansas City, MO  takes on Yieta Johnson (2-3, 2 KOs) of Washington, DC, and Jose Saenz (4-0, 3 KOs) of Kansas City, MO is scheduled to meet Edgardo Torres (2-2, 2 KOs) of Vineland, NJ in the Lightweight division.

 

All bouts are subject to change.

 

Doors open at the Turning Stone Resort Casino Event Center at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 7.  The first undercard bout starts at 7:30 p.m. The live Showtime telecast begins at 10:00 p.m.
