“We here relaxed and calm, we’re waiting on news of plans that we’ve been working on. But that’s it,” Cotto told El Vocero.

Most of the boxing world has its eyes on Mayweather-Pacquiao and the possible deal that has been 6 years in the making. Cotto is rumored to be an opponent for Mayweather should the fight not happen but Cotto offered no opinion on the negotiations.

They (Mayweather-Pacquiao) know what they have to do to make the fight,” explained Cotto. “They’re the only ones that know if the fight’s going to happen. I can’t comment much on that because it’s their fight. When you ask about Mayweather and Pacquiao, the people that know what’s going on and who should be asked about what’s going on is Mayweather and Pacquiao.”

As far as the future, Cotto has nothing to report for the moment.

“When there’s nothing to say, it’s better they say nothing,” stated Cotto. “We’ve done our work and my career the best way possible and that’s how we’ll continue. We want to start the year off on the right foot, and we just had a great deal we signed with Univision.”

The deal with Univision will be a platform to showcase the young talent in Puerto Rico, and Cotto feels it’s essential to let the public know about the younger fighters on the island.

“We want to facilitate to for the public to see the talents of the young fighter and making sure Puerto Rico is still a place where there are strong fighters.”
