Manny PacquiaoFormer three-division world champion Shane Mosley believes Manny Pacquiao will have to knock out Floyd Mayweather Jr. to have any shot at winning on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mosley, who has fought both fighters, nearly knocked out Mayweather in the second round of their 2010 bout.

In an interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio’s Jenna Jay, Mosley added that Pacquiao has to be aggressive early; otherwise Mayweather will run away with the fight.

“I almost knocked him out straight out of the gate,” Mosley said, “He (Pacquiao) can’t give Mayweather a chance to get comfortable or pick up his rhythm. If he is going to win against Mayweather, it’s going to have to be in the first three or four rounds.”

It was the right cross that landed for Mosley in the second round against Mayweather – and crushingly so – but the momentum did not stick for Mosley as the pound-for-pound king recovered quickly and outboxed Mosley the rest of the way. Mosley landed 29 punches in the opening two rounds, but he ended up with only 92 connects in the fight. In his 2011 clash with Manny Pacquiao, Mosley was knocked down by a big left hand in the third round and proceeded to stay away from the eight-division world champion for the remainder of the fight, landing only 66 punches.
Mosley added that Mayweather’s defensive capabilities would help him prevail to another victory.

“I was seriously hurt with Pacman and was able to avoid him knocking me out. Mayweather is generally the best at avoiding punches. I would have to go with Mayweather,” he added.

Alex Ariza, a well-known strength and conditioning coach, had a five-year run with Pacquiao, through the fighter’s move from lightweight to welterweight, and was credited for many of Pacquiao’s sensational performances when he was knocking out a majority of his opponents. Now, he works with Floyd Mayweather Jr., which has given Mosley another reason to pick Mayweather to win on May 2.

“Mayweather has Ariza and Pacquiao doesn’t , so I am definitely going with Mayweather on this one, although I like Manny personally and wish him the best.”
