Ruslan-Media-Day2It was confirmed by Boxingscene.com in an interview with Ruslan Provodnikov’s manager, Vadim Korilov that the front runner to face the Siberian Rocky in Russia in November is none other than Jose Luis Castillo.

    Wait what?

Provodnikov and his team have said that Jessie Vargas, Brandon Rios, and Timothy Bradley all have said no to facing Provodnikov. There were also twitter rumors put out by Korilov stating that they have offered 500k to the likes of Zab Judah and Mauricio Herrera to make the trip to Russia and fight Provodnikov. Both fighters have responded to denying the claim as they did not receive anywhere near that offer.

OK, I get it, it’s fight in Russia and a fight after a comeback to a loss. A lot of people thought Provodnikov beat Algieri and had Provodnikov won that fight, he may have landed a Manny Pacquiao fight. But there has to be someone out there other than Jose Luis Castillo.

Castillo hasn’t fought a significant fight this decade. He also hasn’t fought in nearly two years. He’s 40 years old and his best days have long left him. In fact, I worry for Castillo’s health in a fight like this. Provodnikov has sent opponents like Algieri, Herrera, Bradley, and Alvarado to the hospital after fighting him in the ring. How does that bold for an older, slower, past his prime fighter who has had plenty of issues making weight in his last few outings? Whatever happened to the Paul Spadafora bout? If this goes through, Provodnikov and his team should be ashamed of themselves for taking on what it seemingly an old punching bag in the ring.
